CHERYL McENANEY

International Department
Artist Development

I first worked as a temp in the International department and was hired on my third day there as administrative assistant to David Hubert, VP of International. I was only visiting L.A. at the time, where my boyfriend had moved with his job from Boston to Venice CA, and I was planning to do temp work for a few weeks before returning to Boston to apply to grad school. Instead, A&M sent me back to Boston to pack up my life and moved me to Los Angeles. I was promoted by Hubert in 1979 to International Promotion; the 1979 photo  is at my desk in that job, which I lost in the big layoff later that same year.

A couple of weeks after the layoff, Brenda in "Personnel" (HR) phoned to offer me an interview with Martin Kirkup in Artist Development, and I was thrilled to accept a job as Martin's assistant. The 1980 photo was taken in Martin's office. Again I got promoted, this time to National Artist Development Manager, and the attached 1981 photo was the "head shot" taken by Mark Hanauer to announce my promotion in Billboard and other trade publications.
