Paul Williams & Roger Nichols
Paul Williams and Roger Nichols were each signed as songwriters to Irving Music, one of A&M Records music publishers. In mid-1966 they were teamed. The first song they wrote together was "It's Hard to Say Goodbye." The song was recorded by Claudine Longet for A&M Records.
By 1968 were Irving's top writing duo. In that year they wrote "We've Only Just Begun."
Songs by Williams and Nichols are often associated with Carpenters ("I Kept On Loving You" was the B-side of the "Close to You" single" followed by "We've Only Just Begun," "I Won't Last a Day Without You," "Let Me Be the One," and "I won't Last a Day Without You.").
