HISTORY
Heavyweight Records was a joint venture between A&M Records and Ice Cube (Ice Cube Records doing business as Heavyweight Records), A&M
Records and The Ice Carter, LLC. Carter is Terry Carter, founder and owner of the Heavyweight. The agreement with A&M was formed in 1998 to produce
sound recordings and music videos. The first
artist signed was Short Khop and Heavyweight's first album was the soundtrack The Players Club released March 17, 1998. The film was written, produced and directed by Ice Cube. He
also acted in the movie.
The Players Club featured many artists who recorded singles or CDs on A&M: Rufus Blaq, Changing Faces, Kurupt, and Public Announcement.
The logo on this page was used commercially by A&M. It was filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on January 30, 1998. The logo was never
registered and was abandoned on April 14, 2000. Heavyweight modified the logo to remove the smoke and add color. The revised logo appeared
on its web site and its releases.
