It took Eduardo del Barrio two years to create his Free Play album. The album started as a solo work until Stan Getz suggested adding other musicians. Del Barrio said that to perform the album live, "It would take a quartet of keyboardists to do it. And everything in the symphonic piece ['Three Freedom Movements'] is so difficult, it wouldn't just take a couple of rehearsals--you'd need months."
