Gerry Mulligan's The Age Of Steam album was recorded over a year. It was originally titled Mother Machine. The album art for Mother Machine appeared in an advertisement and the title was used on promotional copies of albums released with The Age Of Steam album package.

Four tracks from the album were recorded at A&M Studios in February 1971. The tracks were:

    One to Ten In Ohio
    Over the Hill and Out Of the Woods
