Perry Botkin, Jr.
Perry Botkin, Jr.'s initial association with A&M Records began in 1971 when he co-wrote the film score for "Bless the Beasts and Children" with Barry DeVorzon. The song became a hit for the Carpenters. The full soundtrack was released on A&M Records and was Renee Armand's debut work with the label.
One of the instrumentals from the soundtrack, "Cotton's Dream," was used as the theme song to the television soap opera The Young and the Restless beginning in March 1973. The show kept the song with changes to its arrangement to the present day. In 1976, ABC created a feature on Olympic gold medalist gymnast Nadia Comaneci. "Cotton's Dream" was re-named "Nadia's Theme." A&M released the song as a single and on an album by various A&M artists also titled "Nadia's Theme."
Perry Botkin, Jr. signed with A&M Records in June 1976.
