Richard Carpenter
By the end of February 1983 Richard Carpenter resumed on finishing the Voice of the Heart album at A&M Studios. He completed the album in May. It was released in October 1983. Carpenter went on a promotional tour that supported the album in England, Japan and Australia plus print and television interviews in the U.S.
Carpenter's first performance after Karen's death was on June 25, 1983 at Cal State University at Long Beach. It was a tribute for Karen.
Richard was the featured artist on the radio program Music and Memories that aired on May 5-6, 1984. In October 1984, Richard was producing a Carpenters Christmas album.
On September 19, 1985 Richard played "We've Only Just Begun" at the Committed to Life charity banquet in Los Angeles. On December 10, 1985 Carpenter performed at the Salute to the American Songwriter held in Los Angeles.
In 1986 the Carpenters single "Honolulu City Lights" was released commercially in the U.S. on the Memories Series. He made a guest appearance providing the vocal arrangement and background vocals on Smokey Robinson's "Sleepless Nights" and keyboards on "Hanging On By a Thread." The songs appeared on Robinson's Smoke Signals album.
Richard Carpenter recorded his Time album between June 26 and July 5, 1987. "Something In Your Eyes" was the first single released in September 1987. "Time" was released as a single in December 1987.
In 1989 Carpenter wrote songs for and produced Akiko Kobayashi's album City of Angels. The Carpenter-Bettis "How Could I Ask For More" was released around May of 1989 in the U.S. Richard traveled to Japan to promote the album with Akiko including an hour-long interview and performance on the Yuzo Kayama Show.
