Sergio Mendes

"I love discovering new rhythms, new writers and new melodies and casting the right people to perform them."--Sergio Mendes

In 1969 Sergio Mendes Enterprises expanded to include music publishers Rodra (BMI) and Berna (ASCAP) that were represented by Rondor Music internationally. These houses brought music by Edu Lobo, Dory Caymmi, Gilberto Gil, and other young Brazilian writers to the U.S.

Sergio also began producing his records and those of Bossa Rio and Manfredo Fest

In 1983, Sergio signed with A&M Records for the third time. He had completed his new album when he received a tape of "Never Gonna Let You Go." The vocalist on the tape was Joe Pizzulo and the song was not performed as a duet. Mendes liked the song so much that he reworked the album to include the song. The result was his first and biggest solo hit (#4 on the Billboard Hot 100).
