Ike & Tina Turner
Originally recorded in 1966, River Deep--Mountain High is known as the last time producer Phil Spector used his wall of sound technique. A&M Records bought the masters for the album. A&M replaced "You're So Fine" with "I'll Never Need More Than This." The photo on the back cover was different from other album jackets and the liner notes were updated. Its release in August 1969 marked the first recording of River Deep--Mountain High in the United States.
"River Deep, Mountain High" was co-written by Phil Spector. Ike and Tina Turner met Spector in 1966 and Spector expressed interest in recording Tina. During the recording session, Mick Jagger, Brian Wilson and Dennis Hopper who took photos were in the booth. Jagger asked the Turners to tour with The Rolling Stones. Hopper's photos became part of the album art work.
Musicans on the session: Barney Kessel (guitar), B. J. Baker (Mrs. Kessel) background vocals, three bass, Jack Nitzche engineered the session.
Tina Turner was voted 17 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
